DESCRIPTION
Often described as the Best Team to leave New Zealand, the 1937 Springboks played 11 matches in Australia also including two Tests. They lost just one match - the famous victory in the wet for NSW. The # 15 jersey was worn by breakaway "Ebbo" Bastard who played 18 matches for the Springboks including 6 Tests. A farmer he died in 1949 in a shooting accident. The jersey has faded but apart from that has no holes or tears. Bastard is printed on the collar. The black number 15 sits on a crossed stitched white patch. A leaping Springbok with bent front feet is embroidered directly onto the jumper. The jersey comes from the Trevor Allan collection. Jeff Noseda the Tour secretary of the 1947-48 Wallabies presented this jersey to Trevor. Jeff was NSWRU Secretary for 25 years until his resignation in 1946 (this was in the time that there was no Australian Rugby Union)
