1963 South African Rugby League jersey Worn Ockert Ooshuizen. An interesting and rare jersey. South African Rugby League started in the 1950s and a national team toured Australia & New Zealand in 1963. The (traditional) green SA jersey forced the Australians to revert to the original blue and maroon hooped jersey for the test series. The tour was a failure as Australia won the Tests 34-6 and 54-21. The South Africans won just two games of their 14 game tour, albeit they had 3 narrow losses in New Zealand (where the forward injuries were bolted by 2 Australian players). From the 'birth' of Rugby League in South Africa.
**NEW INFORMATION SINCE INITIAL LISTING**As the jersey is framed we can not check the number. The typed plaque made when it was framed states that the jersey belonged to hooker Ockert Oosthuizen
These items for sale are surplus to the Easts group requirements and are being offered for sale to Roosters members and collectors of Rugby League history. This is a one off opportunity to procure some very rare items of league memorabilia.
