DESCRIPTION

A commemorative jersey worn by the RFU President's Overseas XV at Twickenham against England in 1971. The jersey is quite rare in that while it is a 'World Type XV" it does bear the English Rose, as it was selected by the then president. The players were selected from 5 nations; Australia, Fiji, France, New Zealand and South Africa (which I guess is why the harlequin design features the colours Black, Blue, green and Orange (as Australia was then) an white collars an cuff. Scottish, Welsh and Irish players were not in the selection.

The team features some impressive players Villepreus, Maso (France) Williams, Meads, Kirkpatrick and Lochore (New Zealand) Marais, Frik du preez (South Africa) Johnson, Davis (Australia) The O/s side won 28-11. The current owner was given the jumper at the game by the RFU President Tommy Kemp. He was the boyfriend of Kemps daughter at the time.

The jersey bears a Lillywhite label and was made by Umbro. It is sized 44. There is no number. England rose embroidered badge to chest and 1871-1971. Rare chance to own this "World" jersey that could almost we listed as an English variant. In excellent condition. Comes with letter from owner. The RFU President 1971-1972 Timmy Kemp played 5 Tests for England. He played for England 1937 - 1948. He captained England as a student in Wartime internationals and post-war.
