An unframed 1961 Australian # 3 jersey worn by winger Jim Lisle. This is an historic jersey for another reason, as it is the first test match in which Australia wore the All Gold jersey - considered now my many to the ‘Traditional’ Wallaby jersey. In fact, from 1929 to 1961, barring two one-off changes in 1937 & 1938, the Wallabies wore a dark green jersey. This change in 1961 was made to avoid a clash with the dark green South Africa jersey. From 1962 the Australians permanently adopted the gold jersey and a tradition was born! Size 40 jersey made by Haworth Knit Glen Iris Melbourne 100% Cotton. Has some mould on collar, cuffs, sleeve and at waist. Dark green plastic # 3 on back (no patch) There are a few silverfish holes down body of jersey. This was a part of the Boet Van Rensburg Collection. Boet’s collection started over 60 years ago when he was a 9-year-old ball boy. His collection has grown to such an extent that a special room has been built to house the collection. Springboks and international players touring the republic, in fact, often frequent his home. Was auction by Legends Genuine memorabilia at auction LAO13.0-005 August 2005.
