DESCRIPTION
A NSW Rugby League representative cap awarded to Wally Webb who played in 1909 for Eastern Suburbs. The blues cap which features the initials "W.W" embroidered into it is in excellent condition. Blue velvet with silver piping and silver metal tassel. The front segment features embroidered in bullion embroidery N.S.W.R.F.L, a kangaroo and the date 1909. This early representative cap was awarded to Webb who played for NSW in the 2 matches organised against the 1908-09 original Kangaroos, who had just returned from their inaugural tour. Webb played in both matches which were played at the Sydney Showground (Agricultural Ground) On 5.5.1909 The Kangaroos 34 defeated New South Wales 8, and on the 8.5.1909, The Kangaroos 43 defeated New South Wales 10.Provenance; The vendor is the grandson of Webb. Webb was later a Kangaroo co-Manger on 1933-34 tour. Cap is currently mounted and framed with 1919 Australian cap but is offered individually.
