The first time the famous red V was worn by the Dragon slayers!!!

The St George District Rugby League Club made its debut in the NSWRL in 1921.

While the club played its first decade in the famous red and white colours the design actually featured hoops……The 1929 season saw Saints run on for the first time with a distinctive 'red vee' on a white background.

Now commonly referred to as the 'Dragon Slayers', St George had adopted what is now one of the World’s most distinctive jerseys. This jersey was worn again in 1930 but then was replaced by Butcher stripe designs which the club used until 1946 when the red V was returned – this time however without the logo. St George & the Dragon reappeared in late 1950s but this time it was smaller and in the traditional right breast location.

This jersey from 1929 was the first time this famous logo appeared on the jumper and was used for just two seasons – this is a rare and excellent example. The jersey has a white patch with a red number 5 to the back. There was once a manufacturer label but this has since been removed.

Assessment: The jersey has some foxing discolouration and a small part of the V on both sides has been removed. The embroidered St George and the Dragon is in fantastic condition however.
